New York Jets running back Breece Hall will miss two or three weeks with a minor groin strain, head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed on Tuesday, allowing the franchise to take a significant sigh of relief.
By that timeline, Gang Green will have its leading rusher back in time for their regular-season opener on Sept. 13 against the Tennessee Titans.
Hall went down with a non-contact injury during Monday’s practice, which initially raised significant concern about a major issue. Glenn, however, said following that practice that he believed it to be minor.
The 25-year-old will be one of the engines of the Jets’ offense in 2026 after signing a three-year contract extension back in May that can be worth up to $45.75 million. He put up his first 1,000-yard rushing season last year, going for 1,065 yards on 243 carries with four touchdowns. He also caught 36 passes for 350 yards and an additional score.
Braelon Allen will serve as the starter for the remainder of the preseason, with Kene Nwangwu backing him up. The Jets will also give Chip Trayanum and Sam Scott — both rookie free agents — some looks. New York’s No. 3 running back, Isaiah Davis, is also out after suffering a minor knee injury that should hold him out for at least one more week.
Elsewhere in the offense, quarterback Geno Smith returned to practice on Monday after an ankle injury held him out of the Jets’ preseason opener. Star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who missed Monday’s work with an illness, was back on the field Tuesday.
