New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers took a massive step toward potentially being ready for Week 1 of the regular season, participating in full-speed team drills on Monday afternoon for the first time since tearing his ACL in Week 4 last season.
“My soul has been dead for so long just being away from the game,” Nabers said. “So, just getting out there and having my teammates behind me, kind of felt that soul come back to life out there.”
Wearing a red non-contact jersey, Nabers took things slow on Monday. He did not participate in consecutive plays and caught three passes in seven reps.
Still, there were flashes of the young pass-catcher that electrified Big Blue during a historic rookie campaign two years ago in which he reeled in 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. The speed was there, the agility was crisp, and he even made a leaping catch during 7-on-7 drills.
“The most important thing right now is my health,” Nabers said. “So, I’m taking each step accordingly and just making sure my body feels good with taking the next step week by week or day by day or whatever they want to do…
“I’m listening to my body as much as possible. I mean, I only know what I feel, and I’m explaining that to the training staff. And I think they’re taking that into consideration and just asking me questions, asking me, do I feel like doing more? Asking me, do I feel like I’m doing too much? So, I’m in a healthy spot and just continue to just add more reps as I go practice to practice.”
With a little over three weeks until kick-off of the 2026 season, it is still very much in the air if Nabers will be ready for Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium. He even deferred to admit if he was on track for that being a possibility, saying that’s more of a question for head coach John Harbaugh.
