QUEENS, NY — Ronny Mauricio is healthy and once again knocking the cover off the ball in Triple-A, but David Stearns and Mets brass are not clamoring to get him back up to the big leagues to give him some playing time during the final stretch of this lost season.

“It continues to be a discussion,” Stearns said on Monday. “He’s playing well. He’s doing his job in Triple-A. But I think the most important part for Ronny and the most important thing for Ronny is to get that consistent playing time. And the way we are right now in the big leagues is just tough to see where that comes from right now.”

After missing more than a month because of a fractured thumb, the 25-year-old infielder’s impact bat has come back around. He has eight home runs with 23 RBI in his last 27 games in Triple-A, including a five-RBI night on Aug. 8.

But as Stearns said, there is no place for him to play and get consistent reps in the majors. Second baseman Marcus Semien is back from a hip injury, while shortstop Francisco Lindor and third baseman Bo Bichette are locks at their spots, as well.

For a player who has appeared in just 127 games in the Mets’ organization over the past two years — he tore his ACL while playing winter ball before the 2025 season — playing every day trumps a fourth, brief major-league stint. That formula has yet to work, as Mauricio owns a .226 average and .623 OPS across 319 big-league at-bats.

“Ronny’s development has been paused at multiple times over the past couple of years at really unfortunate times,” Stearns said. “And so now that we’ve got him healthy, we’ve got him in a good spot; our focus is just let’s let him play every day, even if it’s in Triple-A and not the big leagues.”
