There is still no idea when Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor might be able to return after straining his calf last month, manager Carlos Mendoza said on Thursday.

“He’s getting better,” the skipper said prior to his team’s series finale at Citi Field against the Detroit Tigers. “Showing signs of healing. Now we’re moving to the phase of the strength part, in the weight room, before he starts his running progression. Positive sign, we just gotta let it heal.”

There are no plans for additional testing or imaging before he ramps up to baseball activities, but Mendoza also admitted he does not know when that portion of the rehab might start.

Lindor hit the 10-day injured list on April 23, one night after suffering the injury while running the bases. It was the same night that the Mets got Juan Soto back from a strained calf that kept him down for 15 days.

It was immediately apparent, however, that this would keep Lindor out for much longer than that. The veteran shortstop has already missed 18 games

Ronny Mauricio was supposed to step in for Lindor, but he fractured his left thumb last week. Bo Bichette, initially signed this winter to take over at third base, has slid over to shortstop, his natural position, as of late.
