U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona wants to see one of his former constituents joining him in the halls of the Senate.
Kelly is endorsing Alex Vindman, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel now running in the Sunshine State.
“Alex Vindman has never backed down from a tough fight, and I know that in the U.S. Senate, he will be a fearless advocate for Floridians. As a fellow veteran, I am proud to endorse Alex Vindman for U.S. Senate,” Kelly said. “Alex is ready to challenge the status quo and weed out the corruption in D.C.”
The support comes a week ahead of an Aug. 18 Democratic Primary that will determine who challenges Republican U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody in November.
Vindman embraced the support from Kelly, a Navy Captain before his years as an astronaut.
“I am honored to have the support of Senator Mark Kelly, a fellow veteran and model public servant,” Vindman said.
“My opponent, appointed Senator Ashley Moody, was handed a Senate seat by the political elites, which is why it’s no surprise she’s spent her time in D.C. delivering for Big Pharma, homeowners’ insurance monopolies, and utility companies. I’m not a career politician — I will be an independently minded fighter for everyday Floridians who are working harder than ever, but falling further and further behind.”
Vindman has tallied multiple endorsements from sitting members of the Senate, including from U.S. Sens. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois and Jack Reed of Rhode Island. Like Kelly, Duckworth and Reed are combat veterans.
For years, Vindman has served as a senior advisor for VoteVets, a Democrat-leaning organization committed to electing more veterans to public office. The veterans endorsing Vindman are among those endorsed by the organization in the past, and Vindman is one of two Senate candidates VoteVets has endorsed this election cycle.
