A stint on the injured list is still a possibility for Jorge Polanco, who continues to deal with a sore left Achilles, manager Carlos Mendoza revealed on Thursday, labeling the situation as “fluid.”
The veteran middle infielder, who signed to play first base but has been resigned to the designated hitter role since this cropped up during the opening series of the season, was left out of the Mets’ lineup for their series finale at Citi Field against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
“It’s kind of day-to-day,” Mendoza said. “There’s going to be some good days, and there’s going to be days where he feels it more. Yesterday was one of those days.”
The 32-year-old appears to be significantly hampered by this injury. In the nine games since Opening Day, which is when he began feeling the discomfort, he is slashing .189/.250/.270.
His inability to play first base has forced Mendoza to play Brett Baty, Jared Young, and Mark Vientos at first base in the interim.
