Red Bull New York winger Jorge Ruvalcaba has been named to Mexico’s preliminary 55-man squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as selected by national team head coach Javier Aguirre.

From here, Aguirre will cut the list to a final 26-man roster, due by June 1. Mexico, one of the co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup alongside the United States and Canada, opens the tournament on June 11 against South Africa at the famed Estadio Azteca. A pair of friendlies against Ghana on May 22 and Serbia on May 30 will help whittle things down —matches that Ruvalcaba figures to be a part of.

The 24-year-old winger is in his first year with New York after making the move to Major League Soccer from Pumas in Mexico. He has four goals in 12 matches, including a brace on April 22 in a 4-4 draw with DC United, and is a vital cog in Red Bull’s attacking trio up front alongside 18-year-old wunderkind Julian Hall and American winger Cade Cowell.

Ruvalcaba is just one member of Red Bull that is in contention to compete at the World Cup — a testament to Major League Soccer’s growing influence on the international soccer scene. Defender Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty made his debut with the Canadian national team last month, and Emil Forsberg has been a fixture with the Swedish national team for a decade, though he was not included in the side’s roster for its World Cup play-off back in March. Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath could also be in the mix for the US national team after serving as a reserve for the Stars and Stripes at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
