A young tourist visiting the Big Apple was stabbed inside a Midtown McDonald’s early Monday morning, authorities said.
According to police sources, the incident took place inside of 490 8th Ave. at just after 2 a.m. Cops from the Midtown South Precinct arrived at the fast food restaurant after a report of an assault in progress. There, they found the 19-year-old Australian man with multiple stab wounds to the torso.
EMS rushed him to Bellevue Hospital, where he is expected to recover. Police say the victim was eating when he was attacked unprovoked.
Police took 25-year-old Juan Mercedes of Florida into into custody for questioning. He has since been charged with assault.
According to NYPD data, felony assaults are down in the confines of the Midtown South Precinct by 5% but are up by 4% across the entire south of Manhattan.
