Jets vs. Dolphins Week 7 preview: How low can you go?

The New York Jets failed to string together back-to-back wins during their matchup against the New England Patriots in Week Six, falling by a final score of 26-19 and to a 2-4 record. They sit third in the AFC East.

Despite the loss to a far superior Patriots team that seems to have found its identity over the past month, the Green Gang turned the game into a nail-biter with some second-half pressure. They came back from a 17-3 deficit at halftime and outscored the Pats 16-9 the rest of the way.

Quarterback Geno Smith did just about all the Jets could’ve asked of him while under constant pressure, taking three sacks along the way. He finished with 252 passing yards, completing 20 of 30 attempts for one touchdown and his first interception of the season. That lone touchdown came on a perfectly placed 48-yard bomb to wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr., cutting the deficit to one score in the third quarter.

Cooper Jr. shined in his first game since Week 1 due to an ankle sprain. The rookie out of Indiana recorded his first career touchdown along with 103 yards on six catches.

Running back Braelon Allen continues to be a bright spot in Breece Hall’s absence. Allen ran for 78 yards this week on 17 carries; there needs to be a real conversation on his role once Hall returns.

The Jets’ defense struggled to contain Drake Maye and failed to sack him a single time. Even with a plethora of dropped passes from A.J. Brown, Maye was still able to record three passing touchdowns and 235 yards.

The Jets are back home in Week 7 as the winless division rival Miami Dolphins come to town.

The Dolphins have been a disaster to start the 2026 NFL season. There are not many things going for the team; they hold a league-worst minus-62 Point Differential and are one of two teams without a win. They are coming into this game off an early bye week.

Offseason acquisition and starting quarterback Malik Willis has been one of the league’s worst performers through the first five games. He has thrown for just 849 yards, with two touchdowns and four interceptions. His 56.2% completion rate and 44.3 quarterback rating rank among the lowest marks in football. Not to mention, he has taken 13 sacks.

The Dolphins put up a season-high 24 points against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week Five, but still came up short in a 31–24 loss.

The teams’ sole bright spot appears to be second-year running back Ollie Gordon II. Despite not putting up All-Pro numbers, the 22-year-old has clearly taken the next step in his young career. Over his last two games, Gordon II has racked up 188 yards with a pair of rushing touchdowns.

It should be an easy, and needed, win for the Green Gang in Week 7 against one of the worst teams in football; they must avoid an embarrassing upset in order to keep their season hopes alive.

The key to success against the Dolphins is to play clean football. The Jets are a better team, but they must show that on the field this week. Miami has yet to hold a lead all season, making red-zone efficiency and second-half execution crucial. The Jets need to capitalize on their scoring opportunities and apply the same second-half pressure they showed against the Patriots if they hope to come away with a desperate win.
