New York Knicks star guard Jalen Brunson suffered an apparent right knee injury late in the first quarter of Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs.
On the defensive end of the floor, Knicks backup guard Landry Shamet shoved Spurs veteran Harrison Barnes, who fell into Brunson’s knee. The captain immediately grabbed at his knee and looked to the bench.
He stayed on the floor until Mike Brown called a timeout with 1:27 left in the quarter following Dylan Harper’s driving layup, which capped off a 20-3 run in a 5:32 span to give the Spurs a 27-17 lead.
Brunson then went down the tunnel to the New York locker room, then returned to the bench at the start of the second quarter. He checked back into the game with eight minutes to go in the half.
After hitting the first shot of Game 1, a three-pointer, Brunson missed each of his next six attempts, while the Knicks started 7-of-20 from the field.
