After unequivocally naming rookie Cade Klubnik the No. 2 quarterback behind Geno Smith, the New York Jets worked out Will Levis and Jack Plummer, as first reported by Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic on Thursday.
The most likely role for either passer, should they get a deal to join Gang Green, would be the practice squad, as head coach Aaron Glenn was clear that Klubnik — the fourth-round pick out of Clemson — would be the only backup quarterback on the roster and that he would “do a good job.”
Levis started nine games for the Tennessee Titans as a rookie in 2023, posting 1,808 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions. His production fell off the following year, throwing 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 12 games. He went 5-16 as the Titans’ starter and was cut following this preseason.
Plummer was an undrafted free agent who caught on with the Carolina Panthers in 2024, though he spent the majority of that season on the practice squad. He made the jump to the Orlando Storm of the UFL, where he was named league MVP in 2026 by passing for a league-best 2,188 yards with 17 touchdowns in 10 games.
