After returning from their road trip to Frederick, Md., the Cyclones played the third game of their home series with Wilmington after two losses to the Blue Rocks. This particular July 9 game was special for Brooklyn since it gave the SNY TV audience a glimpse of the Single-A Cyclones since the New York Mets had already played an afternoon game. With the team on the regional stage, the Cyclones were a part of a classic 11-2 win that just fell short of a no-hitter in the ninth inning.
“Eight of the nine position players were a part of the 11-2 win tonight with good hitting along with good pitching to break a five-game losing streak,” said Cyclones broadcaster Johnny Gadamowitz.

From the first inning, the Cyclones went ahead 3-0 on John Bay’s 13th home run. Gadamowitz’s broadcast partner Justin Rocke called the shot, saying, “John Bay starts the day with a bang, a three-run shot to the left of the center field scoreboard and the Cyclones have a 3-0 lead,”
Catcher Daiverson Gutierrez followed Bay and blasted a ball over the left field fence. “He puts one up in left, and how far will this one go?” said Rocke. “It’s heads up in Luna Park for a back-to-back home run for the youngest position player on the roster, who just put one into orbit!”
Gutierrez finished the game a triple short of the cycle, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

Besides getting a 5-0 lead by the sixth inning, the Brooklyn pitching was superb as Dakota Hawkins (3-0) threw six scoreless innings, giving up no walks and no hits while striking out five. Cristofer Gomez then pitched a scoreless, no-hit seventh inning, and Ryan Dollar threw a scoreless, no-hit eighth. Juan Arnaud finished the ninth inning, but not until he surrendered the team’s no-hit bid to Miguel Villarroel, who tripled home two Blue Rocks runners.
Hawkins is the fourth Cyclones pitcher to throw six no-hit innings. In June 2024, he was also a part of the Cyclones’ first nine-inning no-hitter, where he combined with Joshua Cornielly and Joey Lancellotti to beat the Aberdeen Ironbirds 3-2.
