Those hoping for a speedy recovery by Aaron Judge might have to temper their expectations.
The Yankees’ slugger is still “a couple weeks away” from getting reimaging done on his fractured rib, manager Aaron Boone told the “Talkin’ Yanks” podcast on Tuesday.
“It’s probably a couple weeks still from reimaging,” Boone said. “They’ll determine when they feel like he’s doing stuff that [says], ‘Alright, let’s go reimage it now.’ We’re not at that point yet. He’s doing some lower-body stuff now in the weight room and moving better. I think he’s feeling a lot better this week, anyway.”
Judge last appeared in a game for the Yankees on May 31 and was piecing together yet another strong campaign to the tune of 17 home runs, 38 RBI, and a .907 OPS in 59 games. He was placed on the IL on June 4 and prescribed an initial timetable of four to six weeks before remiaging could be done.
Boone’s comments confirm that it will be on the tail end of that initial timetable, and that a return might not come until August.
In his absence, the Yankees initially appeared to be capable of staying afloat, going 10-2 in 12 games. But since then, they have gone 2-8 in their last 10, including a four-game sweep at the hands of the Red Sox in Boston. The offense has understandably sagged during that stretch, averaging just 2.6 runs per game.
