For what is now becoming an annual occurrence, New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn kept his hardline stance that star running back Breece Hall will not be traded before the NFL’s Nov. 10 deadline.

“Breece is still a part of this team,” Glenn said on Monday, a day after the Jets’ 38-33 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. “I understand how the noise happens when things like this happen. But I’ve said it before: We’re in the business of keeping good players, and he’s one of our better players, so Breece will still be here. We’re in the process of keeping good players.”

Hall has been sidelined for the last five weeks due to a quadriceps injury, and the emergence of Braelon Allen has fueled speculation that the veteran running back is now expendable, especially in the midst of another lost season that saw Gang Green drop to 2-6.

The 25-year-old is, at least on the surface, still viewed as a franchise running back after recording his first 1,000-yard season last year. All the while, his name was cropping up in trade talks, most notably with the Kansas City Chiefs, who reportedly offered a third-round pick for his services.

His big year earned him a three-year, $43.5 million extension in May.

The thing is, Allen has been superb in his absence. He rushed for 147 yards in Sunday’s loss to Las Vegas and has eclipsed the 100-yard mark in three of New York’s last four games. Dealing Hall to a rusher-needy team on the cusp of contention could yield a strong return, just as general manager Darren Mougey did last year when he traded away defensive cornerstones Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner.

On the flip side, the Jets need to show some signs of progress, though it would be a surprise to see Glenn leading this team in 2027. Still, the idea of pairing a healthy Hall with Allen would create a significant 1-2 punch in the backfield that might be too tantalizing for Mougey to pass up, at least to experiment with going forward.
