The world champion New York Knicks will get their ticker-tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes in Lower Manhattan on Thursday.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the parade’s date mere moments after the Knicks broke a 53-year NBA Championship drought on Saturday night with another come-from-behind victory over the San Antonio Spurs, 94-90, taking the NBA Finals and the Larry O’Brien Trophy 4 games to 1.
“For more than 50 years, New Yorkers have waited for this moment. Through near misses, heartbreak and a hope that every year could be our year, this city never stopped believing in the Knicks. And this team fulfilled that hope with grit, resilience and heart — just like the five boroughs itself,” said Mayor Mamdani in a statement released just before midnight. “New Yorkers have cheered for our team from packed living rooms in the Bronx to watch parties in Brooklyn, from bars in Queens to Staten Island to Manhattan, and Madison Square Garden itself. Now it’s time for our city to celebrate together. Bing bong.”
The ticker-tape parade — a time-honored New York tradition of celebrating monumental achievements — on June 18 will be immediately followed by a ceremony at City Hall, during which the mayor will present the team, including NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, with Keys to the City in recognition of their achievement.
The 2025-26 Knicks are only the third team in franchise history to win an NBA championship, but they will be the first to receive a ticker-tape parade in recognition of their victory. Millions of people will undoubtedly line the Canyon of Heroes, Broadway between Battery Place and City Hall, to watch this championship Knicks team showered in cheers and plenty of paper.
The city hasn’t had a ticker tape parade since the New York Liberty captured the WNBA title in October 2024.
In addition to the parade and ceremony, Mamdani announced, the David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building and Brooklyn Borough Hall will be illuminated in blue and orange for the Knicks on Thursday.
City Hall is expected to announce further details about the parade and ceremony later on Sunday.
