It’s Pride month, and nobody celebrates better than New Yorkers! It’s always important to teach your kids about the struggles the LGBTQ+ community has faced, but this month, especially, they can learn through fun events and activities that are happening around the city.

Manhattan

Pride Family Picnic

Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Ave., Morningside Heights
Saturday, June 6, 11 am – 2 pm
All ages
Free

Pack a picnic, play yard games, and spend the afternoon in The Cathedral Gardens. The Queer Big Apple Corps Marching Band will perform at 12pm followed by a musical instrument petting zoo for a hands-on introduction to a variety of instruments.

Woof Fest: Paws for Pride 2026

Bring your dog to celebrate Pride with a fabulous afternoon of performances, activities, and community. And don’t miss the signature event – the “Walk of Pride” Catwalk Contest, in which you and your pup can strut down the catwalk and show off your unique style and pride in front of the judges, for a chance to win fun prizes! Festive attire is encouraged. 

Community Pride Mural

Visitors of all ages are invited to get creative and contribute to the Whitney Community Pride Mural. Add your own drawings, messages, and designs throughout the day as the mural grows into a collective celebration of Pride, creativity, and community.

“Camp Cattywampus”

“Camp Cattywampus” is a full-length play with music, poetry, painting, and dance. It follows a group of teenage girls as they navigate grief, queerness, art, and rage at a performing arts summer camp.

Sunday Story Time: ’Twas the Night Before Pride

Listen to a reading ’Twas the Night Before Pride, written by Joanna McClintick and illustrated by Juana Medina. As a family packs snacks and creates banners for the annual Pride Parade in New York City, they look back on the history of the special day, how people have been working for decades to spread love and acceptance. The family agrees that the very best part of Pride is being yourself! After the story, make your own colorful crown to celebrate your own special self!
