Everyone is having fun at the Yankees’ expense, even when they are nowhere near the picture.

Moments after the Milwaukee Brewers clinched their first-ever World Series title with a Game 5 win over the Rays down in Tampa, manager Pat Murphy shared a moment with his first baseman, Jake Bauers, who caught the final out.

“You’re gonna be a rich f—r,” Murphy told the pending free agent. “Just remember when you were on that horses—t Yankees team, you guys were all playing for yourself? Just remember, say, this is the way we used to do it.”

Bauers enjoyed a breakout season with the Brewers, his third with the franchise, in 2026, slugging a career-best 26 home runs and 86 RBI. The 31-year-old had once been a journeyman struggling to hang in the majors. He played sporadically for four different clubs across six seasons, including with the Yankees in 2023, where he batted .202 with a .693 OPS, with 12 home runs and 30 RBI in 84 games.

New York went 82-80 that season and missed the postseason — the only time in Aaron Boone’s nine-year tenure that has happened.

The Bronx Bombers have been the butt of jokes in recent years as their championship drought has now reached 17 years. While Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Rays star Junior Caminero both put their spin on John Sterling’s trademark call of “The Yankees win!” with “The Yankees lose!” after bouncing them from the ALDS in 2025 and 2026, multiple members of the Los Angeles Dodgers poked fun at New York’s inability to play fundamental baseball following a five-game World Series drubbing in 2024.

Ex-Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly lambasted the Yankees for their sloppy play, saying it was in their scouting report to “let them throw the ball to the infield; they can’t make a play.”

“We pay attention to every single detail,” Kelly said. “We have a lot of big superstars in our clubhouse, but our superstars also care and aren’t lazy and play hard. So that’s the difference and the biggest separator.”

Utility man Chris Taylor simply said that the Yankees “s—t down their leg” after that famous fifth-inning defensive meltdown in Game 5 that saw New York squander a five-run lead behind three errors.

Bauers will likely be a hot commodity on the open market this winter after sparking his career in Milwaukee. Along with his career-bests in virtually every offensive category, he was named the NLCS MVP in the Brewers’ four-game sweep of the Dodgers after batting .286 with six RBI.
