LISTEN: Immigration Is the Backdrop to This Election

Talking to brand new immigrants to New York City, it reminds you of what an amazing place this is. They want to come here because of what it stands for.

Having been a local reporter in this town for as long as I have, I know how grinding the bureaucracy is and how difficult it can be to survive here, but they don’t know that yet.

It’s kind of amazing to talk to somebody who’s been to Times Square for the first time. It’s really a special experience to see it through their eyes, and then to see them find ways to survive here and become New Yorkers over time, getting grumpier and finding ways to make it work.

The City Reporter’s Gwynne Hogan joined hosts Christina Greer, Katie Honan and Harry Siegel at the Tenement Museum for a live taping just before early voting kicked off in New York City.

They dug into this year’s races, what’s at stake locally and nationally, how immigration is playing into those politics, and much more.
