Giants vs. Cowboys: Week 1 storylines as NFC East rivals open primetime season

Of course, a few things will have to go right for that to happen, but the only thing they can control right now is that first step.

After losing the majority of last season due to a torn ACL, third-year wide receiver Malik Nabers’ recovery and rehab had been under the microscope this summer with the hope that he will be ready for opening night.

As it stands, it sure looks like he’ll be ready.

“I think he’s ready to go, man,” Harbaugh said on Wednesday. “We’ll see, though. I mean, it’s still four days until we play. So, if he’s ready to go and he feels like he’s ready to go, then he’ll play. If he’s not and he’s not ready, then he won’t play. That’s how it works.”

Nabers’ availability transforms the Giants’ offense into a far more threatening unit for second-year passer Jaxson Dart. The 23-year-old caught 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie season two years ago. He’s the team’s unquestioned No. 1 wide receiver — the head of an intriguing unit that will also feature rookie Malachi Fields, veteran Darnell Mooney, and returning hero Odell Beckham Jr.

Dak vs. the secondary

The Cowboys had one of the most high-powered, dynamic passing offenses in all of football last season, and not much is expected to change in 2026.

It’s a stiff first test for a Giants secondary that is rife with question marks. Deonte Banks and Gavin Newsome II have been deemed liabilities, even busts, in the past. They’re both starting. Paulson Adebo, the $54 million man who was supposed to fix the position, is starting the season on the bench alongside rookie Colton Hood.

The uncertainty puts further onus on the Giants’ pass rush, which is certainly capable of getting after the quarterback. Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux could be one of the best trios of edge rushers in the league. If they can’t get to Prescott, though, expect a long night at the Meadowlands on Sunday.
