Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza will go big this year, spanning Manhattan east to west in celebration of the show’s 50th anniversary and America’s 250th birthday.

The brilliant display featuring 85,000 shells in 30 vibrant colors will light up the night between the East River in the Seaport District, the Hudson River in collaboration with Jersey City, and the Brooklyn Bridge, connecting all the communities to watch on Saturday night.

Here is what you need to know about the magnificent event:

Where to watch in person

Viewing points for the public will be available along the FDR Drive in Manhattan. The NYPD will manage access points in the area. Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced 100,000 free tickets for New Yorkers to see the spectacle from prime viewing areas at Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn and the South Street Seaport in Manhattan. The public lottery at july4.events.nyc is now closed; winners will be notified through July 2.

More information on viewing locations will be announced closer to Saturday.

How to get there

Organizers strongly recommend using public transit on July 4. NYC Transit will increase subway service both before and after the fireworks display. Bus service near the fireworks will be rerouted, with extra trips available after the event.

Prohibited items

The NYPD will prohibit items such as alcohol, backpacks, blankets, cigarettes, drones, duffle bags, e-cigarettes, large bags, large coolers, large packages, lawn chairs, motorized scooters, umbrellas, and weapons at public viewing locations. All spectators are subject to search by the NYPD, and viewing locations are subject to change for safety reasons

Viewing from home

Those who aren’t able to attend in person can watch the fireworks show on NBC and Peacock at 8 to 10 p.m. ET/PT, 7 to 9 p.m. CT/MT. An encore presentation of the show will air at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, and a Spanish-language simulcast will air on Telemundo at 8 to 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Performers at the show

Performers at the show this year included Noah Kahan, Post Malone, Salt-N-Pepa, Bebe Rexha, Shaboozey and Blake Shelton, according to NBC.  The nearly 30-minute fireworks show itself will be accompanied by live performance by NBC’s “The Voice” season 29 winner Alexia Jayy.

“This year’s broadcast will be especially meaningful as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of America and the 50th anniversary of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks,” said Jen Neal, executive vice president of live events and specials at NBC and Peacock. “This beloved live event creates a shared moment for viewers across the country while showcasing the powerful reach of both NBC and Peacock.”

The NYPD will increase security at the event and there will likely be street closures. More information will be announced as it becomes available.
