Leaders allied with Trump react.

President Donald Trump was at the White House Saturday when a shooting was near enough to require a temporary lockdown, though it reportedly was outside the White House perimeter.

And even though details about motive and suspects are still largely unknown, the latest potential assassination attempt on Trump is roiling leaders in his party.

Still, yet another attempt on the president’s life is something that should give us all pause — as well as a sense of urgency. The violence needs to stop. The chaos needs to end. The rule of law MUST prevail,” said U.S. Sen. Rick Scott.

The shooting occurred near the Northwest Corner of the White House, around 17th or 18th and Pennsylvania.

“There is no place for political violence in America. Sandy and I are praying for the victims of tonight’s shooting, and I am grateful for the swift action of law enforcement who put themselves in harm’s way to protect others. We must stand united against this dangerous and disturbing trend,” U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan said.

“Praying for everyone’s safety at the White House right now,” said U.S. Rep. Randy Fine.

“Praying that no one has gotten hurt at the White House. People have gone mad,” U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna said.

“We’re grateful to the U.S. Secret Service for their swift action to protect the President and the American people. Every day, law enforcement officers put themselves in harm’s way to keep our communities safe. We thank them for their courage and service,” U.S. Rep. Jimmy Patronis said.
