A man in Indiana will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars for playing a role in the beating, shooting and burning alive of a victim found dead in his own rental car.

Randal Moon Jr., 41, was convicted in September of murder in connection with the death of 58-year-old Michael Greer, as well as arson, kidnapping, obstruction of justice and conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice, according to Delaware Circuit Court records reviewed by Law&Crime.

On Tuesday, Moon was sentenced to 86 years in prison, per regional Fox affiliate WXIN.

On Dec. 14, 2025, at about 3:45 a.m., the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office said someone reported a vehicle fire in a rural part of the county. Responding deputies discovered the car consumed by flames, and as they investigated, they realized there was a dead person inside.

It was Greer. Deputies believe he was beaten and shot at a home in Indianapolis before being wrapped in fabric and driven to the field where the blaze was set in Delaware County, about 60 miles northeast of the state capital, Indianapolis NBC affiliate WTHR reported. An autopsy showed soot in Greer’s lungs, indicating he was still alive as the car was set on fire.

Four other people were charged alongside Moon, as Law&Crime previously reported. Amy Singhas, Ameariss Aponte, Megan Sloan and Tallis McCoy were all charged with murder and arson in connection with the case, though Moon was the first to be sentenced.

Moon apparently admitted to being at the rural field as the car was set ablaze and that he drove Singhas and Aponte back to Indianapolis afterward, per WXIN. Singhas allegedly said she drove Greer to the field.

Singhas and Greer were reportedly in a relationship before his death, the victim’s family told WTHR.

Aponte is due in court for a pretrial conference on Oct. 28, while Singhas and Sloan have trial dates set for Nov. 16.

McCoy has a pretrial conference scheduled for Nov. 4 before a slated Dec. 14 jury trial.

The motive in Greer’s killing is unclear.

Greer’s obituary says he “will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family and friends, a love that guided his actions, inspired his generosity, and reflected the strength of his heart. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing a thoughtful word, of making others laugh, Michael’s presence brought warmth and light to those around him.”
