Jason Pierre-Paul

Former Giants defensive end Jason-Pierre Paul took to social media on Monday to lobby for a reunion with his old team after Brian Burns’ apparent ACL injury.
“@Giants what’s up” Pierre-Paul wrote in what was just his second post on X since March. The 37-year-old free agent’s previous post was also calling on the Giants to bring him in.
Pierre-Paul has appeared in just six NFL games since the start of the 2023 season — three of them coming last year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has not recorded a sack since 2022, when he was with current Giants head coach John Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens.
It’s been nine years since Pierre-Paul appeared in a Giants uniform. He was a salary cap casualty under former GM Dave Gettleman, who shipped him off to Tampa for a pair of draft picks.
A key member of their Super Bowl XLVI-winning team, Pierre-Paul was on pace to be one of the greatest Giants pass rushers ever, putting up 16.5 sacks in 2011 and 12.5 in 2014. He came back from a disastrous fireworks accident that led to the amputation of his right index finger in 2015 and put up a combined 15.5 sacks over the next two seasons. His 58.5 career sacks with Big Blue rank 10th in franchise history.
The South Florida product is hoping that Harbaugh and GM Joe Schoen will take another flier on an old friend of the organization. The Giants reunited with wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who subsequently won a roster spot. He does not have a catch and has been targeted just one time over New York’s first three games of the season.
The Giants will likely be looking for a depth signing on the edge after Burns’ injury. Kayvon Thibodeaux will step in as the starter opposite Abdul Carter, but there is not much else to work with behind them.
