The Islanders are turning to their fans for an all-new third jersey to be worn during the 2027-28 season, announcing a design contest open to the public. It is the first time in NHL history that a franchise will be taking a design from its fans to create an official team sweater.
“Islanders fans are among the most passionate in all of sports, and their emotional investment is the heartbeat of this franchise,” Kelly Cheeseman, president of business operations for the Islanders and UBS Arena, said in a statement. “With this contest, we are breaking down traditional boundaries and inviting Isles Nation directly into the design room to do something that has never been done before in our league. Our Third Jersey will truly belong to the fans, born from their passion and chosen by their voice.”
Fans will be able to use a digital design tool that ensures all entries fit the NHL’s official jersey template. Historic logos, patches, and official fonts will be available for use.Â
Fans will have until July 24 to submit their designs, after which a committee will review the entries and select five finalists. Those applications will then be voted on by the fans to pick the team’s new third jersey.
The winning designer will receive a team-signed third jersey and tickets to a 2027-28 game to see its on-ice debut.Â
