Detectives are questioning a person of interest following a deadly shooting at a Harlem public housing complex on Wednesday night that took a teen’s life.

Police said the murder occurred at the King Towers located at 40 West 115th St. just after 6:20 p.m. on Oct. 7.

Officers from the 28th Precinct and NYPD Public Service Area 5 responded to the location after receiving a ShotSpotter activation; ShotSpotter is the NYPD’s citywide network of sensors designed to pick up potential sounds of gunfire and evoke a rapid response.

When the cops arrived, they found 15-year-old Jihad Pack, who lived at the King Towers, with a bullet wound to his stomach. Police also located a second victim, a 57-year-old man, who sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand.

The motive for the shooting remained unknown as of Thursday morning, police reported. Sources said detectives are investigating whether Pack was the shooter’s intended target; they did, however, determine that the 57-year-old man was a bystander struck with a stray shot.

Pack was rushed by EMS to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital in critical condition; he died a short time later. The 57-year-old man, meanwhile, was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

During the preliminary investigation, police took the person of interest into custody. Charges against that individual are pending the results of the ongoing investigation.

Through Oct. 4, the 28th Precinct reported three homicides year-to-date, down from five last year. There had also been five shootings with seven victims year-to-date in 2026, down from seven shootings with eight victims in 2025.
