Giants nab Arvell Reese with No. 5 pick, Francis Mauigoa at No. 10

Ohio State Buckeyes linebacker Arvell Reese (8) pursues Michigan Wolverines running back Bryson Kuzdzal (24) during the NCAA football game at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Nov. 29, 2025. Ohio State won 27-9.

The New York Giants added two exciting names to their roster in the top 10 of tonight’s NFL Draft.

After a few early surprises, the Giants picked linebacker Arvell Reese with the fifth overall pick. Reese had been mocked as high as the second pick and oozes potential. He starred at Ohio State last season, winning the Big 10 Linebacker of the Year Award.

There are some concerns about where exactly Reese will fit on the field, but his versatility was a strength in college. He finished last year with 10 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

The Giants’ pass rush is looking scary with the addition of Reese to Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux. That’s a great front-seven that can rush the quarterback and stifle the run game.

The Giants followed that up by drafting offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa a few minutes later with the 10th overall selection, a pick they got by trading Dexter Lawrence last week. The 6-foot-6 lineman from Miami will be key for protecting Jaxon Dart and opening running lanes for Cam Skattebo.

Mauigoa started 42 games across three seasons for Miami at right tackle and should be an instant starter for a Giants line that needs help.

Ohio State safety Caleb Downs, who played with Reese, was widely mocked in the top 10 but slipped in the draft and was available for the Giants to draft with both of their selections. Instead, they decided to go with Reese and Mauigoa.

Two picks in the top 10 are a great opportunity to add difference makers, and the Giants come out with a pair of strong players who should make this a tougher football team to match up against. While they didn’t get any of the standout skill position players, the Giants plugged some holes.

The Giants still have another six picks, including the 37th overall selection, to make before this draft is done.
