Giancarlo Stanton’s recent trend of soft-tissue leg injuries has cropped again, and now the veteran slugger is headed to the IL.

The Yankees announced late Monday night that they were placing Stanton on the 10-day injured list with a low-grade calf strain.

“Doesn’t look too serious, but enough to not want to wait a couple more days,” manager Aaron Boone said after New York’s 4-2 win over the Texas Rangers. “So we’ll see what we have as the week unfolds.”

Stanton suffered the injury during Friday night’s game against the Houston Astros while jogging between first and second base.

He is the third prominent New York star to go down with a calf injury. Mets slugger Juan Soto missed 15 games earlier this month with a low-grade calf strain. He returned on Wednesday night, only for his teammate, Francisco Lindor, to suffer a more significant strain that will keep him out for at least a few months.

The Yankees had hoped that Stanton’s removal from the game on Friday would avoid any significant IL stint, and they gave him 72 hours to find that out, but he will still be down until next week at the earliest.

Stanton, 36, was batting .256 with a .724 OPS, three home runs, and 14 RBI. His role was already set to be diminished as he continues managing the pain from the double tennis elbow issue he ran into last season.

Jasson Dominguez was recalled from Triple-A and was inserted into the DH role on Monday night. How long he’ll stay up with the big club remains to be seen, as shortstop Anthony Volpe could return from offseason shoulder surgery as soon as Friday.
