A local cannabis dispensary is opening a pop-up location right across the street from New York Comic Con.

From Oct. 8-11, Poppin will host a Licensed Pop Up Dispensary located in the parking lot across the street from the Javits Center. The pop-up will feature a selection of products showcasing New York’s top licensed cultivators and processors, including Ruby Farms, Fernway, Wyld, Good Tide, Back Home Cannabis, Milkweed, Golden Garden, and Revert.

Terran Cooper, owner of Poppin, told amNewYork that the pop-up aims to build community for those attending New York Comic Con, whether they are seasoned cannabis users or are dipping their toes in for the first time.

“There’s a lot of overlap between the types of people who go to Comic Con, a lot of comic fans, a lot of gamers, who already use cannabis, but I also think it’s a fun environment and a good forum to play around with these sorts of things. So we’re bringing on a lot of easier to access products to help meet people where they are,” said Cooper. “We want to make this as good of an experience for everybody as possible.”

The pop-up dispensary, which coincidentally is a few blocks from Poppin’s Chelsea storefront, will have a variety of products to choose from, including flower, prerolls, vapes and edibles. There will be limited product drops and special edition merchandise that will only be available at the pop-up.

As a nod to New York Comic Con, visitors will be able to trade trinkets for a fun swap. There will also be a Leafly education and accessory decorating table where guests can connect with the Leafly team while making friendship bracelets and bedazzling lighters.

Visitors can also preorder cannabis products at the event through Leafly and Poppin’s website.

“We brought in a couple of great partners, which are a bit of a split between New York-focused brands and some brands with a little bit larger national presence just to have a little but of familiarity for people coming in from out of town but to also show them what New York has to offer, and how much progress we’ve made in the couple of short years that this market has been up and running,” said Cooper.

Cooper hopes to be able to do more of these pop-ups near Javits Center and beyond for the future and build more community.

“I would love, and I’m hopeful, that we can establish this as a recurring event, not only alongside New York City Comic Con, but some of the other larger events that take place at the Javits Center, but also just kind of establish that this is a thing that we’re popping up, that we can do this, that we can actually come and get in front of people beyond just trying to pull them into our storefront,” said Cooper. “I’d really love to get this going for Comic-Con, but we’re also thinking about the Javits Center, and then also non-Javits-focused events as well, more like community outreach, community markets, things like that, where we can better engage and even more focus on our surrounding community.”

The pop-up will be open from 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. on Oct. 8-10, and from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Oct. 11. You must be 21+ with a valid ID to visit Poppin’s Licensed Pop Up Dispensary. It is free to attend, but you can RSVP on Eventbrite in order to claim limited-edition merchandise and trinkets.

The pop-up is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or connected to Javits Center or New York Comic Con. For more information about Poppin, visit nycpoppin.com.
