The New York Jets are forced to play the waiting game when it comes to Breece Hall, who suffered a thigh injury during Sunday’s 31-24 loss to the Detroit Lions.
The star running back exited the Week 3 matchup in the fourth quarter with an apparent thigh injury and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game. On Monday, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that they will not have an update until Wednesday.
Hall was held to just 32 yards rushing on 13 carries — the second straight down performance after surpassing the century mark in the Jets’ season-opening win over the Tennessee Titans.
“It sucks, but it’s part of the game,” Hall told reporters on Sunday evening. “I felt something when I was running, and then got tackled and planted it and felt something. So, we’ll see.’’
The Jets already have a concerning amount of injury issues, though they’ll get no sympathy in New York City while the Giants face the rest of the season without Jaxson Dart and Brian Burns. Still, wide receiver Adonai Mitchell was ruled out of Week 3 with a finger injury as the latest pass catcher to battle injury issues. Rookie Omar Cooper Jr., Tim Patrick, and Arian Smith are already on injured reserve.
There are significant expectations on Hall’s shoulders this season. The 25-year-old is coming off his first-career 1,000-yard season, which he parlayed into a three-year contract extension worth $43.5 million.
Braelon Allen would step in as the Jets’ No. 1 back, though it would do little to take the pressure off veteran quarterback Geno Smith. Now in his second stint as Gang Green’s starter, he had his best game of the young season on Sunday despite the crowded injury report. The 35-year-old completed 31 of 37 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns, while heavily involving his tight ends to supplement the loss of his other weapons.
