Breece Hall’s multi-year deal is official, inking a three-year, $47.5 million contract extension to stay with the New York Jets after initially being slapped with the franchise tag back in March.
Now comes the part where the 24-year-old running back has to build on a career year and prove that he is worth the investment.
“I feel like [head coach Aaron Glenn and GM Darren Mougey] have really put me in position with all of the guys we’ve brought in and the team we’re building around us, to really flourish and for me to really be myself,” Hall said on Tuesday. “God-willing, we stay healthy, and everything goes to plan, I feel like this could be my best season, for sure.”
Hall is coming off his first-ever 1,000-yard rushing season in 2025, which was also his third-straight campaign of posting at least 1,350 scrimmage yards. But the star back has worked through injuries, most notably a torn ACL in his rookie season, multiple ineffective leadership regimes, and more losing than almost anyone else in the NFL.
“It’s been a roller coaster,” Hall said of his four years with the Jets. “I came in with some guys who aren’t here anymore. I’ve definitely had my ups and downs with the media, ups and downs in the game, and everything like that. But one thing about me is I’m always going tos how up every day and be the same guy and show my teammates how much love I have for them and how I’m going to play for them every week.”
Mougey and Glenn are trying to move the organization in the right direction after a miserable 3-14 season. A new-look offense will be led by coordinator Frank Reich, and veteran Geno Smith will be the man under center. Mougey also committed considerable draft capital by selecting Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq and Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. in the first round.
“Just the fact that they brought a proven veteran in like Geno and we drafted some really good guys, just seeing that let me know that we’re really trying to build something here,” Hall said.
