On the heels of a growing campaign financial war chest, U.S. Senate candidate Alex Vindman is launching a commercial campaign in his bid to unseat incumbent Ashley Moody.
Vindman’s campaign announced it’s ramping up campaign ads for the race, though the Democratic Primary Election is still set for Aug. 18. Still, his initial media ad approach specifically targets Moody, the Republican appointed to the Senate seat by Gov. Ron DeSantis last year.
A Vindman news release said he’s not shying away from his U.S. military service that homes in on his “courage.” The campaign advertising “spotlights Vindman’s immigrant story and U.S. Army service, as well as his Florida First Agenda to fight corruption and lower costs.”
In total, Vindman collected $14.4 million for his campaign, according to his Federal Election Commission report, or $16.7 million including all committees. Moody, by comparison, raised $10.8 million for her official campaign, though she collected more than $14 million across all committees supporting her.
Vindman spent more than Moody as well, and closed the quarter with $7.3 million in cash on hand compared to Moody’s $8.4 million. And Moody, for her part, boasted about the fundraising as a sign of strength.
“On the heels of blockbuster fundraising, our campaign is on offense against corrupt politician Ashley Moody who is a weak campaigner and remains largely undefined,” said Vindman spokesperson Albert Fujii.
“From now until Election Day, we are going to ensure every voter in Florida knows how corrupt Ashley Moody is, including trading more than $2 million in stocks with access to information only Congress gets. Alex, on the other hand, is not a career politician and is laser-focused on cutting costs and fighting the corruption in D.C. that is raising costs for Florida families.”
Both Vindman and Moody can only advance to the Nov. 3 General Election if they have victories in the Primary. State. Rep. Angie Nixon is vying for the Democratic nod against Vindman.
Moody faces competition from fellow Republicans Chris Gleason, Neelam Taneja Perry and Ernest “Ernie” Rivera.
