General manager Brian Cashman’s job might be safe, but the rest of the New York Yankees’ front office does not appear to be so lucky.

Special assistants Omar Minaya and Brian Sabean will not be brought back in 2027, as first reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Minaya joined the Yankees prior to the 2023 season, making the jump across town after working for the Mets across three different stints. He was most notably the Mets’ general manager from 2005-2010 and was a key architect of the 2006 club that won the NL East and advanced to the NLCS.

Sabean initially began working for the Yankees in 1985 as a scout, but left to work for the San Francisco Giants, where he served as their general manager for 18 years. He won three World Series titles out west in 2010, 2012, and 2014. He rejoined New York prior to the 2023 season.

The Yankees crashed out of the ALDS in uncompetitive fashion for a second straight season after being swept in three games by the Tampa Bay Rays. They lost to the Toronto Blue Jays in four games last season.

Their World Series drought has now reached 17 years, which is tied for the longest such dry spell over the last century of Yankees baseball. Yet Cashman and manager Aaron Boone will be returning in 2027.
