The Indianapolis Colts’ philosophy of trading superstar running back Jonathan Taylor has changed, and the Giants are at least interested in pouncing on the opportunity.

After the initial belief was that the Colts had no interest in trading the 27-year-old, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Saturday that they are now indeed open to such a possibility.

The Giants have expressed interest in acquiring the three-time Pro Bowler, who is leading the NFL this season with eight rushing touchdowns to complement 587 yards on the ground.

The Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and Seattle Seahawks are also reportedly interested in Taylor.

New York’s backfield has been shoddy since letting Saquon Barkley walk three offseasons ago, and first-year head coach John Harbaugh has largely been unimpressed with the group he has.

Second-year back Cam Skattebo is the No. 1 option, but did not receive a single touch two weeks ago following a costly Week 5 fumble in overtime against the Washington Commanders. The remainder of the running back room was trimmed down to just Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary, with Najee Harris getting cut following an uninspiring six-week audition.

Skattebo at least made a statement in an attempt to get back into Harbaugh’s good graces. He went off for 124 yards on 17 carries in Week 7 against the Houston Texans, including a 42-yard rumble to set up the Giants’ game-winning touchdown in overtime.

But the Giants are on their bye week, sitting atop the NFC East at 4-2-1. With less than two weeks to go until the NFL trade deadline, upgrades are needed if they want to stay on that perch. Getting a game-changing rusher like Taylor would suddenly create one of the most dynamic backfield duos alongside Skattebo in all of the NFL.

It would also provide another surge to a Giants offense that has looked plenty dangerous with JJ McCarthy, filling in for the injured Jaxson Dart, at the helm.
