New York’s Bravest held its annual name-adding ceremony on Oct. 7 at the Firemen’s Memorial, located at the corner of West 100th Street and Riverside Drive. This year, the names of 11 members of the department, active or retired, who died over the past year were added to the memorial.

That includes Lieutenant Patrick Brady, a member of Ladder Company 120 in Brooklyn, who died in the line of duty on Nov. 8, 2025, after suffering a medical episode on the roof of 9407 Kings Hwy. in Brooklyn. He went into cardiac arrest, and despite the best efforts of first responders, he could not be saved.

“He was a ball of life, obviously professionally and tactically extraordinarily sound. He knew his job, and he knew it well. He was a very good teacher of other younger members, and then just as a guy to work with, a terrific friend, a fantastic husband, a wonderful son, and a guy that you’ve wanted to work with and you wanted to hang out with,” Commander of Ladder 120 Chris Hagen told amNewYork Wednesday.

Hagen was joined by thousands of firefighters to honor Brady and the 10 others who were being remembered. Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore and Mayor Zohran Mamdani also attended the event and honored the departed.

“We are together today to mourn the 11 FDNY members we lost over the last year, each of whom made that selfless decision each morning, and each of each day they could have decided that such a life was not for lines of work and easier ways to make a living,” Mamdani said. “Nearly 1,200 members of the FDNY have given their lives serving New York City, but behind that number is an exponentially larger one, one that we will never fully know, of New Yorkers who are still with us because of the FDNY members who are not.”

The mayor presented Brady’s widow, Kara, with the FDNY flag while the commissioner presented the department’s medal of valor.

Brady was appointed to the FDNY on July 14, 2014. After graduating from the Fire Academy, he was assigned to Engine 227 in Brooklyn, before transferring to Ladder 120 in 2022. He was a resident of Queens.

Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman, who passed away on Oct. 29, 2025, after finishing a shift at the FDNY Training Academy at Randall’s Island was also among those honored.
