Joe Schoen understandably likes this Giants team that he and new head coach John Harbaugh have put together for the 2026 season.
Granted, the bar has been incredibly low. Big Blue has won just 13 games over the last three seasons.
This year is expected to be different, though. Harbaugh finally brings stability from a leadership standpoint — something the organization has lacked for years.
The offensive line is better, the backfield is deeper, the wide receiver room is better, and the hope is that the secondary takes a step forward, too.
“I feel good about the group that we have and expect us to be competitive week in and week out,” Schoen said on Wednesday. “I really like the group, both sides of the ball, special teams… Really competitive group, had a competitive camp, and I like our team; I like where we are. And now, really, we just got to go out and do it, but I do like the roster; I like where we are. We had a competitive camp. And I’m looking forward to seeing how things go Sunday versus the Cowboys.”
Much of that has to do with the Harbaugh’s presence. The veteran head coach, who spent 18 successful seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, has his fingerprints all over this roster build, which in turn could very well save Schoen’s job. He has been on thin ice for years, yet somehow managed to escape last year with his job despite former head coach Brian Daboll getting the axe and the team he put together winning just four games.
“With coach Harbaugh, he’s invested in it,” Schoen said. “He’s got a passion for not just coaching and X’s and O’s and schemes, but the personnel part of it. So, that helps a lot. If we all have the same vision when the player gets here, it’s going to be important that we’re all invested in the same vision and you see it out. That doesn’t always happen that way.”
