Police in Manhattan are looking for the irate straphanger who stabbed an MTA cleaner who caught him urinating on a platform inside the Times Square-42nd Street subway station earlier this week.

The NYPD released images and video Wednesday night of the suspect sought for the stabbing inside the transit hub at about 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 24.

Law enforcement sources said the victim, a 30-year-old male MTA cleaner, was performing his regular duties when he spotted the suspect peeing on a platform. The worker then confronted the perpetrator and the two men quickly became engaged in a verbal dispute.

The argument quickly devolved into a physical struggle, cops reported, during which the suspect pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the MTA worker in the left arm.

Following the attack, police reported, the suspect fled the scene and was last spotted boarding a southbound 1 train.

Officers from the Midtown South Precinct and NYPD Transit District 1 responded to the incident. EMS rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of what police called a severe laceration; he was listed in stable condition.

Police described the suspect as a man with a light complexion who was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, blue shorts and white sneakers while carrying a black bookbag.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA). You can also submit tips online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, or on X (formerly Twitter) @NYPDTips. All calls and messages are kept confidential.

Assault of an MTA employee is a felony punishable by up to 7 years in prison, according to state law.
