QUEENS, NY — New York Mets third baseman Bo Bichette exited Wednesday night’s 8-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in the fifth inning with what the team described as a left foot contusion.
Interim manager Andy Green said following the game that X-rays were negative, though he claimed that it was his left ankle, not the foot.
“I think he’s fine,” Green said. “…We’ll see where he’s at when he wakes up in the morning. You never really know how it is until the next day, but hoping he’s fine.”
Bichette appeared to suffer the injury during his second at-bat of the night against Robert Gasser in the third inning, when he fouled a 3-1 offering off his front foot. He remained in the at-bat and worked out a walk and was not officially lifted from the game until Brett Baty was moved from left field to third base for the top of the fifth inning.
Bichette entered Wednesday night’s action on a prolonged hot streak following a difficult start to his first year with the Mets, slashing .296/.338/.463 (.801 OPS) with 12 home runs and 48 RBI in his previous 85 games dating back to May 18.
