Veteran museum and nonprofit leader to guide Sacramento’s science museum into its next chapter, beginning October 1
Today, the SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Carlos Gonzalez-Jaime as its next Executive Director, effective October 1, 2026. The announcement follows a nationwide search conducted in collaboration with Kittleman & Associates, an executive search firm that specializes in cultural institutions.
“Our board set out to find a leader who has built institutions — someone who can honor what makes MOSAC special while expanding what it can do for this region. Carlos has done exactly that in the U.S. and Mexico in both the nonprofit and corporate worlds,” said Steve Hansen, MOSAC Board President. “We’re thrilled to welcome him to Sacramento as we celebrate MOSAC’s five-year anniversary and look forward to an incredible future ahead.”
In addition to a successful career in the corporate world, Gonzalez-Jaime offers extensive experience founding, leading, and elevating museums, nonprofits, and cultural institutions with a genuine passion for the mission. Since 2022, he has been serving as Founding Executive Director of Transform 1012 N. Main Street in Fort Worth, Texas. In that key leadership role, he successfully scaled an early-stage nonprofit into a $7 million institutional platform, grew the operating budget from $208,000 to $1.4 million, and directed a $70 million capital campaign with $13 million secured to date.
“MOSAC sits at the intersection of science, education, innovation, and community—exactly where I want to focus my energy and passion,” said Carlos Gonzalez-Jaime, Incoming Executive Director of MOSAC. “My first 100 days will be a listening tour. I’m eager to learn and work closely with our team, educators, partners, supporters, and communities across the Sacramento region as we shape the next chapter of this remarkable institution.”
His museum experience also includes building the development department at Papalote Museo del Niño in Mexico City — one of Latin America’s leading children’s museums, with roughly 700,000 annual visitors — during a major expansion, and as the inaugural Executive Director of the Latino Arts Project, he launched a K-12 STEAM program serving underserved students. He previously spent 13 years in senior leadership at Hewlett-Packard.
Gonzalez-Jaime holds a Global MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management and a BS in Industrial & Systems Engineering from ITESM, is bilingual in Spanish and English, and was named among the “400 Most Influential People in Fort Worth” in 2023. The selection followed a search that engaged more than 200 sources and candidates nationwide and drew 55 applicants.
“We also want to recognize and extend sincere appreciation to Daniela Calvitti for serving as the Interim Executive Director during the transition period. Once Gonzalez-Jaime arrives at MOSAC, Calvitti will return to her role as an important part of the management team,” added Hansen.
While Gonzalez-Jaime officially begins as Executive Director on October 1, MOSAC will formally welcome him to Sacramento during a celebratory VIP President’s Reception for museum donors on November 13, 2026.
