NYPD detectives say they are on the hunt for a bigoted suspect who attacked a man at the Times Square subway station last month during an anti-Asian tirade.
According to police sources, the hateful assault unfolded at around 4:52 p.m. on July 27 as a 21-year-old straphanger was riding the northbound R train.
As it pulled into the Times Square-42 St station, cops said, the brute approached the commuter and went on an anti-Asian rant before shoving him to the ground.
Police sources said the suspect then unleashed a flurry of punches and kicks on the victim before making a run for it. The 21-year-old’s glasses were broken during the assault, and he suffered a laceration to the face.
The incident was reported to the Midtown South Precinct and NYPD Transit District 1. EMS whisked him to Mount Sinai West Hospital for treatment. He was listed in stable condition.
Upon further investigation, the case was presented to the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force. Hate crimes have increased in 2026 by over 9%, driven mostly by antisemitism.
Cops said the suspect was last seen wearing a black shirt with yellow writing and a black hat.
