Manhattan detectives are looking for the vicious brute who beat a man with a blunt object during an argument in the East Village last month.
The NYPD released on Thursday night images and video of the culprit behind the assault that occurred in front of 23 St. Mark’s Place at about 7:40 a.m. on July 18.
Police reported that the victim, a 37-year-old man, had become embroiled in a verbal dispute with the suspect for reasons that were not disclosed.
The beef turned bloody, cops said, when the perpetrator grabbed a blunt object and began raining blows upon the man, striking him with the device over the head multiple times.
The suspect fled the scene seconds later on foot, heading eastbound on St. Mark’s Place toward 2nd Avenue, and left the victim in a bloody heap.
The incident was reported to the 9th Precinct. EMS rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of injuries that included lacerations to the victim’s scalp and face, and eye swelling. He was listed in stable condition.
As shown in the video footage, the suspect had his hair in dreadlocks and was last seen wearing a blue-and-white patterned shirt, dark-colored pants, and black-and-white sneakers.

Through Aug. 2, the 9th Precinct had reported 112 felony assaults year-to-date, down 5.9% from the 119 reported at the same point in 2025.
