New York City FC has added Brazilian forward Lughi Hanri Sousa Santos on loan til the end of the season with the option to buy. The Sao Paolo attacker has spent his entire senior career at SE Palmeiras in the Brazilian first division.
The right-footed striker has made 45 appearances, finding the net five times and providing one assist across all competitions with Palmeiras over the last three seasons. The 20-year-old had a promising youth career for both his club and the Brazilian National team.
Luighi scored 15 goals in 32 appearances for the Palmeiras U-20 team and tallied five goals in only eight Brazil youth appearances. NYCFC hopes he can bring that kind of dynamism to New York to finish out this season.

“We’re excited to welcome Luighi to New York City FC,” said Sporting Director Todd Dunivant. “Luighi adds another attacking threat to our front line, which will be crucial in the back half of the season.”
He joins an attack that has been off to a hot start after the World Cup Break scoring 5 goals in their first two games.
“I’m really happy to be joining New York City FC,” said Forward Luighi. “From the first conversation with the Club, I knew this was a great opportunity for me. I’m excited to work with the coaching staff, meet my new teammates, and continue developing as a player. I’ll give everything I have every day to help the team, and I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans for the first time.”
The Boys in Blue sit in the 5th position of the Eastern Conference and believe Lughi’s transfer will help to push for the Supporter’s Shield and secure better playoff positioning.
