Freddy Peralta sees the writing on the wall that his days in a Mets uniform are numbered.
Following another underwhelming start on Sunday in New York’s 8-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, the veteran right-hander admitted that this was “probably” his last start with the Mets.
“I know it probably is,” Peralta said. “I have to focus and keep giving the best of myself. If it happens, it happens. I’m thankful and grateful to be part of this organization. I know so far I’ve let them down. I haven’t done what I was supposed to do, but I’m grateful to be here.”
Peralta was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers over the winter to be the Mets’ ace following a career-best 17-6 campaign last season in which he posted a 2.70 ERA. After lasting just four innings on Sunday, in which he allowed three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts and two walks, his 2026 ERA actually went down to 4.99.
He has not had any conversations as of yet about a potential trade, but he is one of the most likely names to go, considering he is a pending free agent, and pitching-needy contenders would be inclined to take a chance on him should they believe a change in scenery could fix things.
“I understand how it works, but I can’t control that,” Peralta said. “I just have to wait, and come back here tomorrow and the next days and do my best and keep working hard and just keep myself healthy.”
Despite his stock plummeting, Peralta should still yield at least one top-10 prospect, which is likely what president of baseball operations David Stearns will be focused on getting with a fire sale looming. But he certainly will not cost what the Mets gave up for him just eight months ago, with a pair of top-100 prospects in Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams going to Milwaukee.
