WWE’s road to Summerslam is making a stop in New York City to bring “Saturday Night’s Main Event,” a premium event, to Madison Square Garden on July 18.
The show, which streams exclusively on Peacock, is headlined by a star-studded tag team match between the tandem of former Undisputed Champions Sami Zayn and Gunther against the duo of Undisputed Champion CM Punk and Cody Rhodes.
There is a great deal of history between these four superstars, with Rhodes, Zayn and Gunther being rivals in addition to Punk defeating Gunther last year to capture the World Heavyweight Championship. Now, they are pitted against each other.
Next, Danhausen will vs. JD McDonagh in a singles bout, while Bayley will go head-to-head with Lyra Valkyria in a singles match.
Danhausen has become a fan favorite in the local sports scene due to his placing a “curse” on the Knicks during their historic championship run. The NBA franchise also collaborated with the WWE superstar to create custom merchandise.
Bayley, on the other hand, is looking to pick up a much-needed victory over Valkyria, who was once a close ally of hers.
After that, Brie Bella and Paige will defend the women’s tag team titles in a bout against two members of Fatal Influence, a stable made up of Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid.
This much-anticipated event takes place during the same week as Fanatics Fest, the world’s largest sports fan festival at the Javits Center from Thursday to Sunday. Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Punk, and Rhodes are among some of WWE’s top talent on the list of attendees.
The timing of the two shows could lead to WWE legends John Cena and The Undertaker returning to the ring for guest appearances. Both are scheduled to take part in Fanatics Fest alongside fellow legends AJ Styles, Mark Henry, and Trish Stratus.
“Saturday’s Night Main Event” will also feature a special appearance from Knicks superstar guard and Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, who accepted an invitation from Reigns to attend the show. The pair is scheduled to join NFL legends Shanon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco Johnson for a podcast interview at Fanatics Fest.
This also isn’t the first time Brunson has crossed paths with WWE superstars, as the Knicks team captain appeared on an episode of Smackdown at MSG during June 2024.
WWE’s “Saturday Night Main Event” will start from Madison Square Garden at 8 pm ET on July 18.
