Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. joined the “Talkin’ Yanks” podcast for a live edition of the show at the Javits Center during Fanatics Fest on Thursday.
Even during a celebration of the Knicks’ championship, “Let’s go Yankees” chants echoed around center stage during Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart’s live edition of “The Roommates Show.”
Fans are still rowdy about baseball’s biggest brand, with Yankees gear lingering throughout Javits Center, eager to see any content discussing their season so far and moving forward.
Chisholm talked about New York’s series sweep of the Washington Nationals, showed his love of fashion by rating his teammates’ and coaches’ outfits, and played a nickname game with the crew.
Since his time with the Marlins, Chisholm has been one of MLB’s most polarizing figures. His flashy style on and off the field has divided fans, sparking a debate over whether his personality and flair match the product he displays on the field or if he’s an unnecessary distraction.
The debate about his personality only grew after being acquired by the Yankees at the 2024 trade deadline, bringing his swagger and outspoken nature to the league’s largest media market.
That polarizing personality is what makes Chisholm such an attractive guest to bring on stage at an event like Fanatics Fest for a “Talkin’ Yanks” show.
The second baseman came out with a colorful custom shirt featuring his last name on the back before tossing several free shirts to fans in the crowd.
The Talkin’ Yanks crew started by asking questions about the Yankees’ most recent series sweep against the Nationals, starting a four-game winning streak before the All-Star break. Chisholm had multiple clutch hits to help the Yankees win games. Most notably, his lead-taking two-run home run in the eighth inning in the series’ first game.
After the team’s tough skid, where it went 4-14 across its previous 18 games, the series could be a huge boost for the Yankees.
The 28-year-old had struggled during the Yankees’ skid, but said his teammates’ belief in him helped him deliver in big moments. New York trailed in the seventh inning or later in all three games against Washington, yet rallied to win each one.
He said a big reason the Yankees were able to break through was their belief in each other that they have what it takes to get through the tough times that the 162-game MLB season inevitably brings.
Hosts Talkin’ Jake and Joez Mcfly then leaned into Chisolm’s fashion reputation by asking him to rate several outfits. Among them were Aaron Judge, the hosts themselves, and manager Aaron Boone. The fans didn’t keep quiet about their opinions on Boone when his picture came up, with one fan yelling, “he should’ve been gone two years ago.”
Chisholm ended his time on stage with a game about guessing which players had specific, unusual nicknames. He matched all four nicknames with the players whose pictures appeared on stage and said to Jake, “Well, you just said it in order,” sparking a laugh from the hosts and the crowd.
He wrapped his appearance to cheers from fans before being swarmed by fans seeking autographs.
The Yankees are set to face their toughest stretch at a crucial point of the season. New York returns to play on Friday with a series hosting the two-time defending champion Dodgers, starting a stretch of seven straight series against teams currently above .500.
New York’s upcoming stretch should give the answers it needs regarding the August 3 trade deadline. After Chisholm left the stage, one fan asked the hosts about the deadline from the crowd, expressing hope that New York makes several moves to capitalize on a wide-open American League.
